Thoughtful packaging

A plant-based, compostable bread bag and label

We pack Balam in a clear bread bag made from plant-based cellulose. The bag is compostable, helping us move away from conventional plastic packaging.

We pair it with a compostable, freezer-ready label so the whole package follows the same direction.

Why buckwheat

A seed with an agricultural story

Buckwheat is more than a nutritional ingredient. As a crop, it can support pollinators, diversify rotations, cover soil quickly and help cycle nutrients. The exact outcome always depends on how it is grown.

✿

Feeds pollinators

Buckwheat flowers can provide nectar and pollen for bees and other beneficial insects.

⌁

Covers soil fast

Its rapid growth can help shade soil, suppress weeds and reduce the time fields are left bare.

↻

Adds diversity

Adding buckwheat to crop rotations can increase plant diversity and help interrupt pest and disease cycles.

P

Cycles phosphorus

Buckwheat roots can help mobilize forms of phosphorus that are less available to some other crops.

Launching in Utah

First, we make the bread worth coming back for

Balam is being built for Utah families, specialty stores, cafés and restaurants that want a different kind of bread — simple, fermented and made from seeds.
